About

Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) is Victoria’s dedicated public land fire management agency, bringing together frontline firefighters and specialists from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), Parks Victoria and Melbourne Water.

With a workforce of more than 1,000 highly skilled staff, supported by around 2,000 personnel in fire and emergency roles, FFMVic leads bushfire risk reduction, preparedness, response and recovery across Victoria’s parks, forests and other public land. Working in close partnership with the Country Fire Authority (CFA), Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV), other emergency services, FFMVic delivers locally informed, risk-based approaches to managing bushfires and protecting what matters most to Victorian communities.

The organisation is also supported by a statewide network of more than 460 contractors who provide critical surge capacity during fire and emergency events. Backed by significant government investment, FFMVic is delivering programs to reduce bushfire risk, including planned burning and mechanical fuel management. Its work is underpinned by a clear purpose: to protect people, property and the environment, while supporting resilient landscapes and enabling Victorians to safely enjoy the state’s forests and parks.
